The incident was captured on a cell phone video. Amnesty International has condemned the incident as 'abhorrent'. The girl, Du'a Khalil Aswad, who was of the Kurdish Yezidi religious minority was put to death for having a relationship with a Sunni Muslim teen boy.The killing occurred as she was pulled into the street and then stoned to death by 8 or 9 men surrounded by a crowd of many. This incident happened in the town of Bashika, near the city of Mosul in Northern Iraq.
To make things worse there are reports that a local Iraqi security force watched and failed to intervene. This is my no means an isolated event. In fact, this sort of punishment is supported under Islamic Sharia Law. How can we call the human race civilized?

Unfortunately civilized is a relative term. It shouldnt be but people keep doing more and more jacked up things.
It is their law and custom. If the men of the village had not done it, her brother and father would have had to do it.

Your point is so valid. It is amazing how skewed ideas come from cultures that don't understand how to have compassion or wisdom.
Yeah that is crazy, I am surprised that the picture made it on the net though. A lot of the cultural differences like that are sometimes hidden from the world. In Sweden, a Native swedish boy (white) was dating a girl from the middle east and the father cut of one of the boys hands because he was not of their religion or culture.
It's really sad that she had to die. but we can't judge other country's behaviors by comparing it to our own. IMHO.
