No Iran Invasion.... This Decade

Well with the National Intelligence Report released this week which stated that Iran had actually halted its nuclear program in 2003, there is about zero chance that Iran will be invaded by the U.S. any time soon. That's good news. The last thing we need right now is a 3rd war in a row. Iran's President is pretty much a pain the ass but at least he is Democratically elected. Saddam was not. Let's hope Iran will take care of the problem themselves and Iran will return to a little less rowdy world view.

A Bush Autograph

Here's an interesting piece of information I read in some magazine at the dentist -- maybe it was U.S. News and World Report or something:

How much for a President Bush autograph? Well it depends which one you going for. The first President Bush has signed a lot of autographs and lots of letters and such. His autographs are relatively inexpensive to acquire.

The current President Bush, on the other hand, is much less available when it comes to autographs. G.W. Bush hardly ever signs autographs so collectors are paying up to $5000 for a real signature.

Another piece of news -- much more sobering: President G.W. Bush writes a hand written letter to the family of each U.S. service member killed in the war. That's a lot of letters... 3838 for the Iraq war to date!

Those Wacky Russians

Did you hear this? Russian planted a flag in the seabed under the Arctic ice cap on Thursday. Why? To "stake" its claim to the territory. You see, the Arctic may hold up to 25% of the world's supply in oil and natural gas. As climate change progresses and the ice caps recede, some of that energy will become available to extract. Russia, the burgeoning energy powerhouse, want to make sure everyone knows it's theirs.

Not so fast Russia. There is a little thing called "International Law" to consider. We're not living in 1492 -- you just can't go around claiming land by planting a flag in the ground. Most of the land on the Earth was conquered through wars and death, planting a flag was only the first step. But now, in the modern era, dividing up new land is the work of diplomacy, international law, and negotiations. Understand? It will be the same thing when we divide up the moon. Large asteroid? Well that's another subject altogether.
